Place and period of performance: Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Latin America
In 2010-11, a major pharmaceutical company approached Baird’s CMC to conduct one of the largest stakeholder mapping exercises in HCV. This project covered Africa, Europe (including the former CIS), South & South-East Asia and Australasia – 27 countries in all, with 10-20 national NGOs, professional organisations or other bodies mapped in each country, including their national and international linkages. It also included mapping of 44 multilaterals, donors, international academic centres and international NGOs and their linkages at both international and national level. Fieldwork was completed for this exercise within two months of project kick-off.
The pharmaceutical company wanted to use the mapping exercise to inform its access strategies in HCV, support partnering activities and identify countries where there would be government and civil society support for pilot programmes.
Baird’s CMC’s stakeholder mapping exercise helped the pharmaceutical company short list some countries as potential partner hosts which had not come through under the company’s internal review process. Baird’s CMC also helped identify potential issues regarding activist NGO positions in HCV. The project demonstrated Baird’s CMC’s capability to reach key audiences in HCV and our ability to deliver global projects within very tight timelines.
