Marta Dourado’s LatAm Tour Diaries: Wrapping Up

I visited many places and learned so much on this trip. All these experiences are now part of me. But I also have the desire for more! On my next trip, I will definitely include a visit to Cartagena and the Galapagos. I’m immensely thankful to everybody who welcomed me during these two weeks and were generous enough tell me about their countries and their work. I’m also thankful for everything I have learned and for all the many kind and interesting gifts.

Before wrapping up, I would like to leave you with something interesting to think about. I invite communications professionals to conduct the following exercise: Imagine you are immersed in a political environment that punishes economic success as a general rule. A time when the best thing for companies to do is to keep a low profile and not attract the attention of the socialist government that, at any time, could threaten and retaliate against any alleged “antisocial” activity. What type of communications strategies would you recommend for these companies? Draw attention to the organization’s social role. This has been the main recommendation communications professionals have been given by organizations and clients.

Happy communicating!

Signing off,

Marta Dourado
