Since the growth of activism related to access to antiretrovirals for HIV/AIDS in the 1990s, health has moved to the forefront in development policymaking, with a continuing high profile with donors, multilaterals, and the G8. Baird’s CMC has successfully undertaken strategy development, policy research, and advocacy for numerous clients in this area, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, PATH, and the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Project examples: The Hewlett Foundation funded pathbreaking research on links between family planning in developed and developing countries and global warming. Baird’s CMC’s role was to take the research and communicate it to key audiences. Baird’s CMC associates have also worked with PATH to devise and execute extensive communications strategies for a maternal and newborn health programme as well as an ambitious programme aimed at improving immunisation coverage in parts of central India.
