He is an attorney by profession and established his own practice in Cape Town. After practising law for 10 years he moved into the public sector, where he held various senior positions in the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, as the Head of Office in the portfolios of environmental and cultural affairs, social services and poverty alleviation, housing and local government. Before moving to Media24 he was the Chief Operating Officer in the Office of the Premier.
He remains active in the governance of the attorney’s profession and served as a councillor of the Cape Law Society from 1998 and as vice-president of the Society from 2001 to 2005, during this time he chaired the Law Society of South Africa’s transformation committee and served on the Minister of Justice’s steering committee to draft the transformation charter for the legal profession. He is currently the chairperson of the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund.
He also chairs the board of the Western Cape Economic Development Partnership, is deputy chair of the Isandla Institute, chairs the sub-committee of the independent directors at Welkom Yizani and serves on the board of Accelerate Cape Town.
